I finally dusted off the “good” camera and took some pictures! I call this “VanMeeteren Farms: Winter Series.”
Natalie is a goat! When she wants to be held and given attention she will turbo crawl over to my legs and just press her head up against them with all her weight making animal like noises! It’s endearing! She has a big event coming up this weekend…..her 1st birthday!!
Yup, last year at this time I was very, uh, well, rotund. My due date had come and gone, so we loaded Nathan up in the car, stopped at the gas station for hot chocolate and drove around town looking at Christmas lights to distract ourselves from what hadn’t happened yet. Saturday morning my water broke and four hours later, Dan delivered her into my arms with my sister by my side and my midwife on the way! She started out a little on the fussy side, but after a few months she became the most joyful, cheerful little girl! Her smile will melt any cold heart! She knows what she wants and tells me by pointing and making monkey noises. She loves Nathan (most of the time) and also loves to be outside. She doesn’t like to be left out…she is a life of the party kind of baby! Our lives are richer because of her!
Monday was a beautiful day. Cool, but calm and sunny. Perfect for being outside, playing in the snow. I taught Nathan the very important life lesson of eating icicles. He loved them, as you can see from the above picture! Natalie would take a few licks, but preferred to shriek at the cats instead. We spent nearly an hour outside, almost hot from running around in our snow suits, but thoroughly thrilled to get some fresh air and sunshine without the wind blasting our face.
Dan and I had the luxury of two “date” nights this week, which was beyond wonderful! The first was a private performance by the Christian artist Jason Gray, set up by our financial investment group. I got all dressed up, we indulged in chocolates, Christmas M&M’s, hot tamales and truffles at the candy bar and were inspired by fantastic soulful music. I ate the candy because we NEVER eat candy and since we were kid-less I didn’t have to set an example! Haha! We finished the night at The Bluestem for dessert and I think I slept so hard that night as a result of a sugar crash!
The following Thursday we had dinner with Dan’s boss and wife (his cousin and our good friends) and it was so nice to eat a good meal and just socialize with other adults! What a treat!
Sunday is Natalie’s official birthday party so we are gearing up for that, and did a test run with our homemade electric ice cream maker! It was pretty delish!
And that’s the news from this my-baby-girl-is-turning-one week on the farm!
