We are farmers. Bum, bum dum, bu bum bum bum. (Anyone else singing the commercial song with me?)
We are Dan & Laura VanMeeteren, owners and operators of VanMeeteren Farms in Southwest Minnesota and we are passionate about providing high quality all natural food.
Our story began in July 2013 when we purchased a nine acre farm while still working in India. July 31st we departed the plane and with it our transient life of work in other countries. After three years of working and traveling in Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Spain and India we found this acreage online, had our parents check it out, and bought it without ever setting foot on the property.
Our time spent overseas developed in us a great love and passion for people from other cultures and subsequently good cuisine. Our health improved as we ate local and seasonal fruits and vegetables, honey, cheese and meat.
Our vision for the farm is to apply the concepts we learned abroad from the shepherds of the Middle East, the hibiscus tea farmers of Sudan and the no till gardening methods of South India. Our goal is to recreate the best of what we saw and experienced right here in Southwest Minnesota through gardening, livestock and eventually a year-round greenhouse. We will strive to provide high quality all natural food for our community, from our farm to your table.
