I know I usually start with the images that highlight the week, but I’m changing it up this week! It has been a fast and super fun week and I have a LOT of pictures, so they can mostly tell the story. Unfortunately my Mom took all the pictures so she isn’t in any, and Dan was at work until the evening. Nap time is almost over, so I have to write quickly!
The week was busy canning tomato paste and bruschetta preserves for the first time, and then my sauerkraut that had been fermenting for two weeks was just right, so I put it in two 1/2 gallon jars and we’ll have it tonight on grilled brats! Friday my sister and her three kids, as well as my parents spent the afternoon and evening on the farm, having fun and celebrating my birthday! The kids couldn’t get enough of the kittens! Poor things needed a recovery day from all the holding, attention and loving! I was worried it was going to be a cold and dreary day, but after lunch the clouds parts and the sun came out. It turned out beautifully and we spent a lot of time outside going through the garden, playing with the kittens, picking raspberries, playing with the kittens, going for a walk to get the mail, playing with the kittens, chores, kittens….you get the picture! I made homemade pizza for supper, which was divine! It was so fun for Kari and I to be cooking together again! I tried a new flavor and it’s definitely a keeper: chicken bacon ranch. We added chopped garden tomatoes and spinach on top to health-ify it, but the homemade alfredo sauce on the bottom was SO good! Mom made a cream puff dessert and then the troupe headed home, while I tried to pack a little.
Saturday was my birthday! Dan took a picture of the thermometer because it was 4o degrees that morning for my 40th birthday, and he posted that on my Facebook page. We packed up the kids and ourselves and Dan had still not revealed where we were going, what we were doing and whether the kids were coming along or not. Half hour later we dropped the kids off at a friends’ house to stay overnight while we continued on. I snuck in a nap, and then we stopped in Mankato for lunch. I thought it might be our final destination, but no. After awhile I realized we were headed to the Twin Cities, but had no idea the plans. Dan pulled into the mall and after consulting a directory led me to Caribou Coffee where I got my favorite drink for FREE, since it was my birthday, then led me to an Aveda salon where I got my hair cut and styled. I felt so pampered.
Next up, was checking into the hotel where I binge watched a marathon showing of Fixer Upper on HGTV before we left, for what I assumed was dinner. Sure enough, we arrived at The Cheesecake Factory, but the real surprise was that Dan had coordinated with friends to meet us there as a surprise! So fun! We must’ve spent 3 hours just talking, laughing, eating. We were the table that servers hate….because we never leave. (I know this from past experience.)
Sunday morning we visited the church I used to attend when I lived in the Cities years ago for 10 years. It was so much fun seeing everyone again, and then we had lunch with more friends! Then it was time to get home, grab the kids, do chores, and spend Monday in recovery…which I did. So here’s all the fun we had:
And that’s the news from this cheesecake-birthday-kitten week on the farm!
