Stir crazy. Cabin fever. Call it what you want, but we have it! Monday morning there was thunder, rain, sleet, hail, ice and snow! Not exactly great for going out to play or driving anywhere.
The best I could do was foster a fun atmosphere while we were staying home again! Nathan and I picked out a CD of children’s songs and put on the music. Natalie laid on her boppy pillow while Nathan and I sang and danced in circles around her until it was time for her nap. Then Nathan laid down on the blanket next to her to go “night-night.”
Sunday morning I hopped in the shower while Natalie slept. Dan and Nathan were finishing their pancake breakfast when I heard some commotion. I found out that Nathan had escaped to the upstairs, and since I had left the door to Natalie’s room open, he went in and climbed in the crib with her! Dan found him laying next to her, and thankfully she was not bleeding or crying from being smooshed, but was smiling and happy. Dan extracted Nathan from the intrusion and all was well again!
Nathan is fascinated by bubbles these days. Natalie’s spit bubbles. Dish soap bubbles. Bubbles in the pancakes before we flip them over. Bubbles that escape his body in the bathtub! Saturday night we had a family fun adventure and we all went swimming at the pool. Even Natalie! I had just bought two swimsuits for her on a Facebook rummage site and they fit perfectly. I wish I had a picture because she was so stinkin’ cute! She and I floated in the warm baby pool, while Nathan threw balls, splashed and went down the slide a few times. Then Natalie pooped. Swimming time was over for us. We picked up some pizza and headed to Great-Grandma’s to visit for awhile.
The mandatory time out from Mother Nature has resulted in a lot of inside projects and baking. Nathan and I made oatmeal-apple-craisin muffins and he has been very helpful with our dinner meals. Tonight I made Sweet Potato and Black Bean tacos with steamed broccoli and fresh strawberries. For lunch I made a One Pot Morrocan Chickpea Quinoa Salad and paired it with the homemade hummus I had stashed in the fridge. Sunday we were at a potluck with friends. I contributed a fruit salad with an orange-vanilla glaze as well as a spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. Those are some of my favorites! And this morning I felt ambitious and made loaded scrambled eggs with sausage, onions, peppers and cheese with avocado on the side. All in all, we’ve been eating quite well lately!
Our snowman has melted and Nathan keeps asking to do it ‘gain. (Again). He helped Dan with chores this warm weekend, before the blizzard. He is as anxious as I am for the great meltdown of spring!
And that’s the news from this cabin-fever-and-bubbles week on the farm!
