Happy New Year!
It was -22F last night when we got home from a friends house celebrating the first day of 2018. Our furnace decided to start acting up on New Year’s Eve. This morning we woke up to a cool house of 61F, even though Dan slept on the couch to make sure the furnace kept running. I set myself up in front of the warm stove in fleece pants and hat, sipping hot tea, watching Natalie sleep in her bouncy seat and eating scrambled eggs while Nathan slept in after a late night. Today Dan is running around getting parts to fix the old furnace that has miraculously lasted us the 4 years we’ve been in this old farm house.
As many of you saw on Facebook, we had our baby! Natalie Grace joined our family on December 16th at 12:25pm weighing 8lbs. 13oz. and 21 inches long. She is already 2 weeks old! How did that happen?! Her birth was fast and furious. My water broke at 7:30 that morning and by 8:30 mild contractions had started. My sister was supposed to meet me in Worthington for a pedicure in an attempt to have fun, but also jump start labor. I finally called her to cancel by 9am, and she came straight over to help.
Ironically I had to cancel a pedicure I had scheduled when I was over 40 weeks with Nathan too! Dan called my midwife, but Natalie couldn’t wait. Nathan was in the high chair having lunch while I had intense back labor. Suddenly I told Dan the baby was coming and out she came in two pushes! It had always been the plan for Dan to deliver the baby; we just figured the midwife and her assistant would be there too! They didn’t make it on time, because Miss Natalie Grace couldn’t wait! She is perfect and beautiful and already weighs almost 10 lbs!
Nathan loves to smother his sister with hugs and points to all her features, like eyes, ears, nose, mouth. He likes to put the pacifier in her mouth and get me diapers. He is very helpful! His newest game is to run around the table saying “gitchoo.” So I chase him saying “I’m going to get you!” He got a kid size tent as a gift for being a big brother which is set up in the kitchen and houses some toys and books. He pulls on my leg wanting me to join him in his getaway. He continues to amaze me with his ability to sleep through her crying. At least someone in this house is well rested! He loves to be outside and help Dad scoop snow, do chores or be pulled in the sled.
We have been so blessed by all the meals, visits, help cleaning and doing laundry, watching Nathan and sharing stories and encouragement!! Thank you! And if you haven’t stopped by to visit our little Princess, please do! We’d love to show her off to you! Natalie is already loved by so many and as many a parent has said, “Loving our kids is loving us!”
And that’s the news from this we’re-a-family-of-four week on the farm!
